Sunday morning walk after the mowing – soot, gunk, residue, blue heron, pelicans pollution. Los Angeles RIver Long Beach. Before the rains?
Air Quality – AQI – 59 : that means polluted. Tanks and refineries and cargo make sound. Hmpf – pollution
It’s very simple. This was filmed while walking the Los Angeles River. Don’t you love the ducks and prancing horse!
The AQS – that’s the air quality hovered around MODERATE – what is that? Not good
The sound was recorded in Wilmiington / TheNard – a street corner – Anaheim & Nth Henry Dr. intersection. Lots and lots of trucks and a refinery that is not named on MAPS.
The AQS – POLLUTED – what does that mean & what about the sound?
It’s my obsession.
Like the Canary in the coal mine. I want to use my practice of art (the canary) as a sensitivity meter for communities along the LA RIver Long Beach – Cancer alley
Art can be a useful exploration tool, an early indicator. A starting point for change.

SImply play and listen – Sounds of the LA RIver
Many thanks to the Southern California Soundscape Ensemble:
Glenn Bach, Jorge Martin, Marco Schindelmann, Angela Willcocks.
Performance July 21, 2018 at the Collaborative, Long Beach.
